I feel freedom of thought is the precursor to freedom of speech, which I feel is important to environments that enable the brightest, exudes a brightness that allows for navigation like a lighthouse. That language and communication between people provides the foundation for anything meaningful, that without proper translation and transfer, towers can tumble into babel, towering species can lose their ability to communicate with each other and then within themselves, as our own thoughts are made of language.
lighthouses are beacons that guide ships to safe passage and harbor, by signa ling in the night what they stand for and where they stand how to navigate terrain that can be treacherous. They are able to send and receive messages of extreme importance that prevent damage by providing a path to a secure habor. It is easy to pretend to stand for freedom of thought, much harder to become and be a pillar and a defense for it but the latter is what replaces the nihilism and emptiness, evil of the former. When a lighthouse breaks and begins signaling South when it's supposed to point North, it endangers the people who believed them as they are sent into harmful harbor not a haven. Pretending to be a lighthouse to mislead others is an evil worse than darkness because you misdirect people and as more and more people share the truth with one another, that lighthouse begins to deteriorate to decay as it proliferates danger while promising safe passage. As truth stands the passage of time like sunlight, a lighthouse that lies or pretends to be a beacon when it is decidedly not is destined to destroy itself by failing in its fundamental function. That without it ships can become lost and those who were supposed to find their way to one another are unable to, causing critical corrosive changes in trajectory, in time. The legacy of a lighthouse is tainted by the lives it endangers by sending misleading signals, a fresh coat of paint to cover up its decay cannot cover up the destruction and loss of ships that it misled. What you need is not a fresh coat of paint but to fix the fundamental functions that were broken.
